CounciLink: The Beginning
Elected local government officials – Mayors, Councilmembers, Aldermen, Selectmen, and Trustees - are continually looking for ways to improve service delivery to their constituents, and to solve problems within their communities in the most effective and efficient manner possible. Often, these officials ask, "How do others do it?" or "How did others resolve this problem?"
As the former (retired) Director of the Anchorage City Council, City Clerk, and City Ombudsman of Anchorage, Alaska, I found that resources to assist in answering such questions included Internet research, use of bulletin boards, publications, and telephone surveys. However, these resources were "hit or miss" at best. Being one who does not believe in re-inventing the wheel, I strongly believed that someone, somewhere had already addressed the issue, solved the problem, drafted the legislation, or developed the policy.
So, in 1997, I started 'CounciLink' to formally "link" local government officials across the nation through the Internet for the purpose of research, assistance, and information sharing. Today, 'CounciLink' is a fast-growing and effective assistance resource for local government.
It's Simple!
By using one email address – CounciLink@lists.governmentsolutions.net – your requests for information and assistance are automatically sent to hundreds of "CounciLink" members – City Managers, Mayors, Councilmembers, City Clerks, Council Directors, Clerks of Council, Research Analysts, Legislative Aides, etc. – who then provide the information and assistance directly to the requester by email, fax, mail, or phone. Unlike other resources which require requests for information or assistance to be posted on a webpage or bulletin board, hoping others will see and answer the request, 'CounciLink' requests are forwarded immediately and directly to the email addresses of its members who are dedicated to help each other in a timely manner.
